One dead, five injured as police shoots at moving taxi
One person has been confirmed dead, and five others injured when police shot fired live ammunition at a taxi transporting Masaza Cup fans to a football match in Mukono district.
Sam Ssekiziyivu who was shot in the chest, died on the way to Mityana hospital where the rest of the victims are admitted. The incident happened as residents of Mityana on Sunday held protests over the condition of their area member of parliament Francis Zaake.
The MP is currently admitted in Lubaga hospital for injuries allegedly sustained while in custody, following his arrest in Arua, early this week. An eyewitness Suzan Nakaggwa says that the driver of the taxi, registration number UBA 869C defied a police directive to stop at Wabigalo trading centre, prompting a chase by security personnel.

She adds that a police officer, donning a Field Force Unit uniform opened gunfire at the vehicle which was at the time, approaching Kigenge village. Nakaggwa says police first shot tyres of the taxi but the driver still did not stop but just continued driving as more gunshots were volleyed into the passenger vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle proceeded to Mityana hospital, where the injured are now admitted. A doctor who preferred anonymity said two women Jalia Nakamya, 29, and Doreen Asiimwe, 25, sustained bullet wounds in the thighs, Lawrence Jingo, 40, was shot in the abdomen, Reagan Muwonge in the right arm and Derrick Ssengooba, 39, sustained a minor injury.
