Two arrested over raid on Bukwo police post

BUKWO: Police in Bukwo District have arrested two people for allegedly raiding a police post, stabbing an officer on duty before they stole a gun.
On Sunday evening, three unknown assailants armed with knives attacked Alalam police post, stabbed Police constable Walter Opio and took off with an AK-47 rifle and over 30 rounds of ammunition.
PC Opio is nursing wounds at Mbale regional referral hospital where he was admitted with three stab wounds on the stomach.

Sipi Region Police Spokesperson, Mr Rogers Taitika confirmed the arrest and said one of the suspects is a 50-year-old man and resident of Alalam village, Riwo Sub-county. The other is a 48-year-old resident of Konta village, Kameti Sub County in Bukwo District.

“We picked them from their hiding after getting intelligence information. According to our intelligence network, the suspects have important information about the Sunday attack,” said Mr Taitika.
He said the suspects who are currently detained at Bukwo Central Police Station will be charged with attempted murder and other related offences after police investigations.
Mr Taitika says an operation by Police is ongoing to track and arrest more suspects.
