Kakumiro police are holding a man accused of hacking to death his two biological sons. The suspect is a resident of Mizimu village in Kasambya Sub County in Kakumiro District.

He is accused of hacking to death 3-year-old Matthias Mwesigwa and 9-months-old, Yeremiah Niwamanya at around 10pm on Sunday.

Mr Julius Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police spokesperson, said Tumwesigye picked a quarrel with his wife, Sharon Ninsiima on Sunday night over unspecified reasons before the wife fled the home leaving behind their two children.

“The suspects then picked a machete and hacked the children to death and attempted to flee but was arrested by residents who handed him over to Kakumiro police station,” he said.

Mr Hakiza said police picked up the minor’s bodies for examination at Kakumiro Hospital mortuary and later handed later them over to the relatives for burial.

The post mortem report indicates that the minors succumbed to over bleeding resulting from the injuries inflicted on them.
