As heavy rains continue pounding different parts of the country, residents of Butaleja district are the latest to be affected.
According to the Uganda RedCross Society (URCS) villages along the River Manafwa belt in Butaleja have been hit badly after the area became ‘heavily flooded’.
“The affected persons are fleeing for shelter in the raised upper villages,” Irene Nakasiita, the URCS spokesperson said on Tuesday evening.
“The road that connects Butaleja to Mbale is cut off at both Lelesi and Nampologoma bridges,” she added.
Nakasiita also said access to some communities remains a challenge since some roads are impassable.
“The assessment team is equally challenged and can’t access some areas but will proceed once the rain stops,” she added.
