Nine injured in Kalangala fire

Nine people have been injured and 23 others left homeless after fire gutted Kasekulo landing site, Kalangala district.

The fire according to an eyewitness, started at about 9.00am on Sunday from one of the resident’s house who left a charcoal stove burning in a wooden structure. It destroyed household items and other valuables.

One of the victims, Isaac Kisembo says that his Shs 3.8 million from fish sales was burnt in his house.

“All the money is gone. Neither did I remain with any property.” Kisembo said.

The Red Cross branch manager Kalangala, Ibrahim Ssenyonga says that the injured were immediately taken Mugoye health centre III for treatment. They included a seven-month old pregnant mother.

Two weeks ago, one person died and seven others injured in a fire that gutted 35 households on Nkose island, Mazinga sub-county also in Kalangala.
