Pastor Augustine Yiga, the founder of Revival Church Kawala is out on police bond. Yiga was released on Monday evening following his detention at Kawempe police station on Friday evening.

Yiga was locked up when he went to Kawempe police station to record a statement against accusations of raping one of his follower, Angella Ainembabazi in 2014 when she was only 15 years old. Ainembabazi claims that the pastor raped her in the prayer room where she had gone to seek spiritual redemption and financial breakthrough so she could cater for her siblings since they had grown up as orphans.

Yiga’s lawyer, Evans Ochieng told URN that his client was released on police bond around 7:30pm on Monday. He said Yiga was instructed to report to Kawempe police station on February 18 as one of the conditions attached to his bond.

On Saturday, Yiga’s followers stormed Kawempe police demanding his unconditional release, saying the charges against him are framed. This is not the first time, Yiga who also owns ABS TV is being dragged to court.

In 2007, Brendah Nalubega dragged Yiga before Nabweru Magistrate’s court for allegedly failing to take care of the child they sired together. The same year, Yiga was dragged to the Executions Division of High court for failing to pay the monthly up keep of Shs 150,000 for the child as directed by court.

Nalubega first sought help from FIDA Uganda, which failed to reign in on the pastor. It is until when DNA tests were conducted that Yiga accepted responsibility for Nalubega’s child. Yiga had recently claimed that he’d relocated to South Africa and it’s not clear what prompted the pastor to return to Uganda.
