BREAKING — Germany batter Scotland 5-1 in Euro 2024 opening match, as next generation makes its mark
Germany on Friday defeated Scotland 5-1 in the first game of the UEFA Euro 2024 soccer tournament.
Within 20 minutes of the opening game of Euro 2024, two of Germany’s hottest young talents announced their arrival on the international stage.
Florian Wirtz opened the scoring after 10 minutes, and Jamal Musiala added the next 10 minutes later.
Scotland defender Ryan Porteous got a red card for making a two-footed lunge at Germany captain Ilkay Gundogan.
He was sent off a minute before half-time for the foul.
Germany’s Kavel Havertz scored the resulting penalty giving Germany a 3-0 lead going into the break.
Scotland got its first and only point in the match from an own goal by Germany’s Antonio Rüdiger.
